Does this work with any domain?

Right now MailKit only works if your domain uses Cloudflare DNS. If your domain is on GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, or another registrar, you'll need to migrate nameservers to Cloudflare first. Cloudflare DNS is free and migration takes about 30 minutes plus DNS propagation up to 24 hours. After migration, MailKit setup runs in about 30 minutes. Multi-provider support is on our roadmap.

What if MailKit shuts down?

Your domain, DNS records, Cloudflare Email Routing, and Gmail Send-As are yours forever — they live on your accounts, not ours. The only piece tied to our infrastructure is the SMTP relay (Postmark). If we ever close, we give you 90 days notice plus a step-by-step guide to migrate the SMTP relay to your own Postmark or alternative provider account. No lock-in.

That's exactly what we're here for. DNS, SMTP, DKIM, DMARC — that's our part. You paste four lines into Gmail following our step-by-step guide. No technical configuration required.

Will this break my website?

Accepted Answer

No. Email configuration doesn't touch your website settings. Email and web run on different DNS records — we only modify the ones needed for email.

Do I have to keep paying every month?

Accepted Answer

No. MailKit is a one-time $5 fee per mailbox — no subscription, no recurring charges. That covers the full automated setup: Cloudflare Email Routing for receiving, Postmark SMTP for sending, and the step-by-step Gmail Send-As walkthrough. Compared to Google Workspace at $6/user/month ($72 a year per mailbox), MailKit is a one-and-done payment.

Can I do this myself for free?

Yes — but expect an evening of documentation and wrong turns. You'd navigate Cloudflare Email Routing, Postmark SMTP configuration, five DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DKIM verification), and the Gmail Send-As setup — each requiring its own guide, its own dashboard, and a wait to see if the change took effect. MailKit automates the Postmark piece — the most technically involved part — and guides you step by step through the rest.

How is this different from Google Workspace?

Google Workspace gives you a separate inbox at $6/user/month forever — a new mailbox to check, a separate password, full migration if you stop paying. MailKit configures your existing Gmail to send and receive from your domain via Gmail Send-As. Same Gmail inbox, no migration, no monthly fee. The trade-off: with MailKit your domain email lives inside your personal Gmail, not in a Workspace tenant.

What happens if the setup fails halfway?

If our Cloudflare or Postmark automation fails, we issue an automatic full refund within 24 hours. The dashboard shows you which step failed and why. If you'd like to retry once we've fixed our side, we'll let you know — no extra charge if the failure was on our end.

Question 10

Why doesn't Mailkit fully automate the Gmail step?

The Gmail API method that adds Send-As entries (gmail.settings.sendAs.create) is blocked on personal @gmail.com accounts — it requires Google Workspace with domain-wide delegation. We made that part a 3-minute guided walkthrough with copy-paste values instead. The other technical parts (Cloudflare + Postmark + DNS) are fully automated.

Is my Cloudflare API token safe with you?

We use the token only during the active setup session and discard it from memory afterwards. We do not persist it in our database. The token can be scoped to the minimum permissions our wizard documents (Zone:DNS:Edit + Email Routing edits on the specific zone) and can be revoked from your Cloudflare dashboard at any time.

Why might my emails go to spam?

MailKit configures technically correct SPF policy, DKIM signature, and DMARC authentication. Whether email lands in a specific recipient's inbox depends on sender reputation, content, sending practices, and the recipient's policies — all outside MailKit's control. Domain warmup, recipient list hygiene, and consent compliance are the sender's job. Practical advice: send 10–20 emails per day in the first week from a fresh domain, then ramp up gradually.

How is this different from ImprovMX?

MailKit replaces the receiving piece (ImprovMX forwarding) with Cloudflare Email Routing and adds outbound sending via Postmark SMTP through Gmail Send-As — ImprovMX's free tier doesn't do outbound. You'll need to remove the existing MX records on your domain before setup; our wizard detects conflicts and tells you exactly which records block the run.

Do you support Google Workspace mailboxes?

Not at launch. The Gmail Send-As walkthrough is built for personal @gmail.com accounts — Workspace admins can already create domain mailboxes natively without Mailkit. If there's enough demand, Workspace support is on the post-launch roadmap.

Question 15

What are the sending limits?

Accepted Answer

500 emails per day, 50 per hour, 5 per minute — per domain. These are standard limits on our shared email relay. For most small-business use, you'll never hit them. If you need higher throughput after your first month, email support@getmailkit.com — we review requests individually.
